Announcing: Jam Cruise 11 – moe., Medeski Martin Scofield & Wood, funky METERS, Galactic, KDTU, ALO, TLG

For the 11th installment of the floating music festival known as Jam Cruise, event organizers Cloud 9 Adventures have put together a power-packed lineup that mixes scene favorites with up-and-coming jam acts. This year’s lineup features plenty of Jam Cruise veterans as well as a number of bands that have never set sail aboard Jam Cruise in the past. Set to depart Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on January 7 and return on January 12 aboard the MSC Poesia, Jam Cruise 11 will visit Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos and Coco Cay, a Private Island in the Bahamas, along the way. Heading up this year’s lineup are jam stalwarts moe., who will make their Jam Cruise debut in 2013. Other acts atop the bill include Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, the funky METERS and Galactic.

San Francisco will be well represented aboard the Poesia, with ALO, Tea Leaf Green and Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers among the acts hailing from the Bay Area. Roots reggae band Steel Pulse and Afrobeat act Femi Kuti & The Positive Force give the trip some International flavor, while Dumpstafunk, the aforementioned funky METERS, Lettuce and The Motet performing Funk Is Dead assure that there will be plenty of funk on the boat. Also of note are a few interesting pairings featuring drummer Adam Deitch, who will team up with Robert Walter and Eddie Roberts for one performance and John Medeski and Skerik for another. Speaking of Eddie Roberts, The New Mastersounds’ guitarist will host the Super Jam.

On the more electronic side of things, up-and-coming act Zoogma, the groove-oriented BoomBox and Chicago’s Orchard Lounge will make their Jam Cruise debut as will Wyllys and the NY Hustlers, though HT contributor Wade Wilby and Jennifer Hartswick of the band have both performed on previous cruises. Greensky Bluegrass and Hot Buttered Rum return to the Jam Cruise fold to hold down the bluegrass slots. Finally, Jeff Coffin (DMB, Flecktones), Bruce Hampton (ARU) and Mike Dillon (GAT, Dead Kenny Gs) are the three special guests announced thus far.
