Announcing: North Coast Music Festival

The latest entrant into the summer festival party comes in the form of the North Coast Music Festival, which will take place in Chicago’s Union Park from September 3rd to the 5th. Highly-respected local promoters Cold Grums, Kingtello, React and Silver Wrapper have teamed up to bring in a wide-ranging lineup that includes top electronica, indie, jam and hip-hop acts.

Here’s a look at the initial artist announcement…

Chemical Brothers (Live) | Nas & Damian Marley | Umphrey’s McGee | Disco Biscuits | Moby (DJ Set) | Pretty Lights | Benny Benassi | Paul Van Dyk | Cold War Kids | De La Soul | Mayer Hawthorne & the County | Jay Electronica | Boys Noize | Flying Lotus | Benga | Jakob Dylan & Three Legs | Laidback Luke | Future Rock | Dirty Dozen Brass Band | Green Velvet (Live) | Phantogram | Van Ghost | Two Fresh | The Uglysuit | Loyal Divide | Paul Kalkbrenner | Orchard Lounge

HT faves Umphrey’s McGee and the Disco Biscuits lead the way on the jam front, while the Chemical Brothers will make a rare U.S. festival appearance. Three-day passes are currently on sale for the extremely reasonable price of $80 including all fees. The producers of the event promise more acts will be announced soon, so stayed tuned for the next batch of artists.

Between Lollapalooza, Taste of Chicago and the Pitchfork Festival, there’s no lack of festivals in the Windy City this summer, which means tons of acts will be subject to “radius clauses.” Don’t expect many of the bands playing these events to headline shows of their own anytime soon in the Chicagoland area.

  1. Looks like a decent lineup, well worth the $80. But it is unfortunate events like this effect the decision for some bands to headline their own tours in the city the events are held.
