Announcing: Orlando Calling 2011 – Raconteurs / Warren / Seger / Avetts

We’ve been watching the proliferation of music festivals in Florida over the last few years with great interest and this morning a new player has emerged in the form of the inaugural Orlando Calling festival. Produced by Festival Republic, who organize the Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K., Orlando Calling features a genre-defying lineup that should appeal to a wide range of music fans. The event will take place at the large Citrus Bowl football stadium in Orlando on November 12 -13.

Saturday (November 12) and Sunday’s (November 13) lineup are very different from each other as the artists booked for the 12th come more from the indie and modern rock worlds (Raconteurs, Killers, Avetts, Dr. Dog, Felice Brothers), while those set to perform on the 13th have a more country/blues-y/classic rock vibe (Bob Seger, Kid Rock, Blake Shelton, Doobie Brothers, Michelle Branch). There are HT faves a plenty on the bill including The Raconteurs – who will also perform at the previously announced MI Fest, The Avett Brothers, The Roots, The Pixies, Drive-By Truckers, Warren Haynes Band, the Felice Brothers, Dr. Dog and Blues Traveler.

The bands will perform on a total of four stages in and around the stadium with producers promising an  intimate, “coffee-house style” space for the smaller bands. Shuttles will ferry attendees from Downtown Orlando to the Citrus Bowl. Tickets run a reasonable $85 for single-day ducats and $150 for two-day passes with VIP options available as well.

Here’s the full lineup…

Saturday, Nov. 12: The Killers, The Pixies, Avett Brothers, The Roots, The Raconteurs, O.A.R., Gavin DeGraw, Iron and Wine, Local Natives, Pete Yorn, Jenny & Johnny, Civil Twilight, Lucero, Dr. Dog, Justin Townes Earle, Felice Bros

Sunday, Nov. 13: Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Kid Rock & Twisted Brown Trucker, Doobie Brothers, Buddy Guy, Warren Haynes, Chris Isaak, Dwight Yoakam, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Flatlanders, Los Lonely Boys, Blues Traveler, Brandi Carlile, the David Mayfield Parade, Michelle Branch

Does this lineup do anything for you? Would you head down to Orlando in November for a music festival? Has the Florida festival scene been over-saturated? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

  1. I can’t wait – it sounds like the old school Ticket to Rock in the 80’s when the Citrus Bowl use to rock out

  2. i live in Orlando and I am torn between going to my annual Bear Creak Festival or checking out the Orlando Calling.. Honestly though only one day attracts me and that’s Saturday. Not sure what im going to do but they need to add more bands to really keep me from the most magical camp grounds in florida
