BG: Free Dr. Pepper Thanks to Axl Rose

Way back in March, we reported that Dr. Pepper had gotten so fed up with the antics of Axl Rose and his perpetually delayed pet project (aka the new Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy), that the soft drink company would give a free can of soda to everyone in the United States if it was released anytime in 2008. Well, the fine folks at Dr. Pepper plan to make good on their promise as the now semi-mythic album will hit Best Buy exclusively on November 23, with pre-orders currently being accepted.

As for your free beverage, details are still being worked out. It will most likely involve a downloadable coupon you will be able to use at stores.

Finally, while The Beatles catalog has yet to be made available on iTunes, in what can be seen as a step towards that eventual goal, famed department store Bloomingdale’s is exclusively offering up a limited edition Beatles iPod set. The box set includes a numbered 120G iPod in classic black etched with the Beatles’ logo on the front and Abbey Road on the back, all with 13 original Beatles’ CDs, plus two masters and the Love CD, along with an engraved guitar pick for the low price of $795.

Of course, the iPod doesn’t come pre-loaded with music, so you’re still going to have to put it on your device the old fashion way. But let’s hope we see some re-masters on iTunes soon. It’s been way too long.

  1. When companies make promises like this, they take out insurance policies as part of their advertising expenses. So, Dr. Pepper has already paid for the promotion, and therefor, don’t really care if it happens or not. It’s the insurance company that backed the ad promo that now has to make good on financing the free Dr. Pepper.
