Bloggy Goodness: Dead On Wax

There has been a long adage that jambands can’t make great studio albums, well don’t believe the hype as between 1967 and 1970 the Grateful Dead made some of the best templates for psychedelic music and Cosmic Americana. As a way of celebrating the 40th anniversary of Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, the band will release a special box set of the five albums they released via Warner Brothers Records on 180-gram vinyl.

The set will contain The Grateful Dead, Workingman’s Dead, the original mix of Aoxomoxoa and American Beauty, plus the original mix for Anthem Of The Sun, available on vinyl for the first time in nearly 40 years. As an added bonus those who pre-order will receive an exclusive reproduction of a rare 1968 7″ single that features the studio version of Dark Star, with the b-side of Born Cross-Eyed.

Finally, over the last few years music-fueled destination cruises have been all the rage with jambands, classic rock, country and techno all getting in the act. So it should really come as no surprised that indie rock has finally gotten on-board with the announcement of the Bruise Cruise. The three-day floating festival will travel from Miami to the Bahamas and feature the likes of The Black Lips, Vivan Girls, Thee Oh Sees, The Strange Boys and more.
