Bloggy Goodness: Silent Single

Last month, Radiohead front man Thom Yorke teamed up with Bryan Ferry, Mark Ronson, Bob Hoskins, tennis player Andy Murray and British Prime Minister David Cameron to record a charity single called 2 Minute Silence for England’s Remembrance Day – a holiday honoring fallen soldiers. Proceeds from the song, which is indeed two full minutes of silence, will go to benefit The Royal British Union and can be pre-ordered here.

Finally, nearly 30 years after it was originally recorded, a “lost” duet featuring Johnny Cash and Ray Charles has finally been released on the new Charles compilation album Rare Genius: The Undiscovered Masters. The iconic duo originally recorded a gospel-infused cover of Kris Kristofferson’s Why Me Lord for Cash’s now out of print 1981 album The Baron, which for unknown reasons was never included on the record. After tracking down a copy at a storage facility in June the track was included in the new collection, which was assembled as a way of celebrating Charles’ 80th birthday and features ten tracks culled from four decades worth of demos and unreleased material.
