Bloggy Goodness: Sonic Youth Goes Starbucks

I’m going to leave it up to the snarky hipster blogs to pass judgment on Sonic Youth for releasing their new “greatest hits” album – Hits For Squares – exclusively at Starbucks stores in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. (as well as online).

That’s not really the story here, it’s actually the fact that the tracks on the album were handpicked by an interesting mix of musicians, actors and writers, who also wrote about their selections in the liner notes. Among those contributed to the compilation are Beck, David Cross, and Catherine Keener.

Finally, with Bonnaroo less than a month away the rumors are already swirling about possible sit-ins that could take place on the multitude of stages in Manchester. The latest comes from Consequence of Sound who points to a recent Billboard article where Pearl Jam’s Mike McCreedy drops a hint that he’d love to have Jack White join them on stage during their Saturday night headlining set.

  1. I dig that album as well. I know Animals was once mentioned on HT for a similar type list – do people really not own that one?? I’m not a huge Floyd guy, but that one seems like its a classic.

  2. jack white and pearl jam that deff sounds like a good mixture.. drop some jim james and man is that an insane combination of musical eargasms..

  3. Every Track on Low Spark is great in its own way. The title track is obviously a monster. Never quite “got” it live like some of their tunes but the studio version is ON TIME.
