As Pearl Jam continues to celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2011, the seminal Seattle rock band’s lead singer, Eddie Vedder, has announced plans to release a new solo album and live DVD that will feature Vedder exclusively playing the ukulele. The aptly titled Ukulele Songs will hit stores on May 31 and mix decade old Vedder originals that have only been performed live, as well as covers and a take on Pearl Jam’s 2002 tune Can’t Keep. The companion DVD – Water On The Road – will feature selections culled from a pair of August 2007 shows from Washington, DC during Vedder’s promotional tour for the Into The Wild soundtrack.

Finally, Seattle-based craft brewery Elysian has announced that they will release a beer in honor of the groundbreaking indie label Sub Pop Records that they’ve dubbed Loser Pale Ale. The beer’s bottles will feature a label that is a direct nod to Nirvana’s famous 1992 Rolling Stone cover where Kurt Cobain wore a t-shirt with the phrase Corporate Magazines Still Suck. The summer seasonal will be available on tap and in 22-ounce bottles, beginning around May 1, and is being described as having “light tropical flavors balanced with a crisp malt-hop finish.” We can’t wait to try it!
