Bob Weir First Solo Tour: Postponed

The road to Bob Weir’s first-ever solo acoustic tour, which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, has hit a bump as the Grateful Dead/Furthur guitarist has postponed all of his shows between August 2 and August 7. Weir’s website cryptically states the reason for the delay as “unforeseen circumstances.”

Bobby is currently on tour with Furthur until Sunday in Alpharetta and that run of shows will go on as planned. While the solo acoustic headlining shows that were supposed to take place in Knoxville, TN; Charlottesville, VA; Pittsfield, MA; Portland, ME and Westbury, NY will be rescheduled, his opening set for Merle Haggard on August 4 at the nTelos Pavilion in Charlottesville has been canceled outright.

Here’s the full statement from Weir’s website

We regret to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, Bob must postpone his upcoming shows between August 2 & 7. All of the headline dates within this window will be rescheduled except for nTelos Pavilion w/Merle Haggard in Charlottesville on August 4. That show can not be rescheduled. Details regarding the re-scheduled dates will be released the moment they become available. We encourage everyone to hold onto their tickets – however, refunds are available to anyone who wishes to do so at the original place of purchase. Thank you for your kind understanding. All other scheduled performances including 8/20, 9/3 & 9/4, and all scheduled Furthur dates will continue as planned.

For the many bands and formations Weir has performed with in his 46 years as a touring musician, he’s trying new things this summer. We’re interested to hear how he’ll rework classic Dead songs and covers for solo guitar, not to mention the debut of Bobby’s project with Jackie Greene and Chris Robinson at the Folks Festival plus his guest spot with the Levon Helm Band at moe.down XII. Let’s hope everything is okay with our favorite jorts-wearing rocker and that he’s able to salvage the rest of his summer schedule.

  1. I have tix to Pittsfield, MA solo show and Just saw Furthur at SPAC. We noticed Bob looked rather skinny in his Manpris. Here is hoping he is okay health wise. The last time he cancelled a tour was Ratdog Fall 2004 for exhaustion. I had tickets to Turning Stone Show and it was rescheduled about 6 months later.
