Bob Weir Sits In With Tim Flannery & Lunatic Fringe @ Sweetwater

This weekend San Francisco Giants third base coach Tim Flannery has been playing a series of four concerts in the Bay Area with his band Lunatic Fringe to help raise funds for Bryan Stow. Stow was the victim of a brutal attack at Dodgers Stadium at a game between his beloved Giants and the Dodgers in 2011 just because he didn’t root for the home team. Last night Flannery’s four-night swing landed him at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, Calif. where Grateful Dead / Furthur guitarist (and one of the venue’s owners) Bob Weir joined him and Lunatic Fringe for five songs.

Weir has a long history with Flannery as they have performed together a number of times including a handful of appearances at AT&T Park singing the National Anthem before Giants games. Bobby and Phil Lesh even nominated Flannery for Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year Award to honor Tim’s relentless work raising money for Stow’s family. The guitarist emerged in the first set to sit in with Lunatic Fringe on a four-song string of Catfish John, Peggy-O, Friend of the Devil and The Weight. Weir returned in set two to help out on Loser.  Flannery, his band and Bobby were surrounded by the World Championship trophies the Giants won in 2010 and 2012 leading to a “Let’s Go Giants!” chant.

The benefit shows continue tonight at the Uptown Theatre in Napa, Calif.
