Briefly: Assfaces 1, People 0

I was saying boo-urns: “In the first US trial to challenge the illegal downloading of music on the Internet, a single mother from Minnesota was ordered Thursday to pay 220,000 dollars for sharing 24 songs online. Jammie Thomas, 30, was the first among more than 26,000 people sued by the world’s most powerful recording companies to refuse a settlement after being slapped with a lawsuit by the Recording Industry of America and six major music labels.”

  1. the deck was pretty stacked against her. the jury pool was comprised of people who weren’t technologically savvy. two of the jurors had never been on the internet and another described himself as a “total computer illiterate.” anyone who had used a p2p program such as kazaa was dismissed from jury duty.

  2. Good points, danimal…Something tells me the record companies had decent lawyers that knew how to voir dire prospective jurors better than this poor woman’s team.

  3. Isn’t she protected by law as she is one of millions of people that are guilty of this. Is there some sort of specific action or “contract” that she agreed to on a particular website? This is scary stuff. Prooving intent is a tough thing to do though. I think she will be ok.

  4. What a crock of shit. The RIAA is going down the shitter and fast and this is just a pathetic attempt on their end to hang onto their last strand of power by any ugly means necessary
