Live on Letterman: My Morning Jacket

Size doesn’t matter, at least when it comes to My Morning Jacket. Whether performing for 20,000 fans at MSG or an intimate crowd at the Ed Sullivan Theater, the Louisville-based band will command the room immediately with its potent brand of rock. By the middle of the first song, Wordless Chorus, at MMJ’s Live on Letterman taping last night, the whole crowd was bouncing with every note feeding off Jim James’ energy and the excitement didn’t let up until the end of the One Big Holiday finale.

James and his band mates were clearly enjoying the setting with the front man bantering about how special an occasion this was and that it isn’t every day that you get to move Dave Letterman’s desk so that you can rock out at the same place The Beatles were introduced to America. MMJ fit nine songs into their Live at Letterman set focusing on material from Evil Urges as well as “the hits” including Anytime, Golden and Mahgeetah. If missed last night’s webcast, you can still view the performance in its entirety right here…

Next up for My Morning Jacket is a trip to Levon Helm’s barn for what’s sure to be an incredible Midnight Ramble on Saturday night.
