While most musicians would use an unexpected break in their schedule to take a well deserved rest, Luther Dickinson isn’t most musicians. Earlier this week, the Black Crowes announced that they were canceling the rest of their shows this month due to “an unexpected illness within the band.” Dickinson, the Current Crowes guitar player, is heading off to Colorado next weekend to join two of his North Mississippi Allstars band mates for a special show at the Ogden Theatre in Denver.
On September 27, Dickinson will sit in with both southern rockers the Hill Country Revue and JJ Grey & Mofro for their tour stop at the Ogden. Both bands are currently touring the country together behind the latter’s soul-shaking album, Orange Blossoms. Those hitting the show at the Ogden get the added bonus of a NMAS mini set. To purchase tickets for this special performance, and for a full list of shows, head over to Mofro Ticketing.
Dean Ween continues to provide outrageously brown content on his NING blog. Just yesterday Deaner shared some amazing shots from his photo collection. Where else can you see photos of Deaner with 1980 U.S. Hockey Coach Herb Brooks, or a head shot from the girl on the Chocolate & Cheese cover? Keep up the good work Deaner – the world needs more celebrity blogs that don’t suck.

Finally, the Daily Swarm clued us in on a terrific list detailing 10 Examples of Auto-Tune Abuse in Pop Music. We Believe Cher is totally to blame for this horrible fad, so we’re shocked that song didn’t make the list.
The New York Football Giants shocked the world by pulling off an incredible victory over the heavily favored Patriots in what was one helluva game — it was actually kinda hard to sleep last night in New York City thanks to the roar of the fans celebrating in the streets. Guess you can’t win ‘em, all Boston fans. We rank Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ rapid fire parade of hits atop the non-football highlights, followed by the Prince Caspian commercial and the talking Tide stain.

If Tea Leaf Green replacing Ben Chambers with Reed Mathis was a steal, then the Black Crowes replacing Paul Stacey with Luther Dickinson will go down as the best deal this side of the Louisiana Purchase. The Crowes announced the move on Tuesday as they spilled the beans on details about their new album. Warpaint will be released via the Crowes’ new imprint Silver Arrow Records on March 4th.
Dickinson makes his Crowes recording debut on Warpaint and will join the band on a world tour supporting the album throughout 2008. Before anyone starts scouring Northern Mississippi for another Allstar, keep in mind that Luther will probably keep his role in NMAS. At least that’s what Mike Greenhaus thinks, and we trust him. This won’t be the first time a Robinson brother will be in a band with Luther Dickinson, as Rich played in the short lived Circle Sound with Luther last year. My sister just gave birth to her second son. One of the first things she said to me about having two sons was “now they can form a band.” Over the course of rock history there have been many pairs of brothers that have achieved major success. So this week’s B List looks at our 10 favorite pairs of brothers who jam together.
10. The Evans Brothers [Soulive]
The Evans brothers with band mate Eric Krasno
Neal [organ] and Alan [drums] Evans make up two thirds of the soulful trio known as Soulive. The Evans boys cut their teeth by playing with Moon Boot Lover in the mid ’90s before forming Soulive with Eric Krasno in 1999. Neal is an incredibly percussive musician who plays organ with one hand and a bass keyboard with the other. Alan is the king of inventive fills, always thinking of new ways to push the music. Soulive recently released No Place Like Soul on the revamped Stax label.

As far as I know, JamBase hasn’t cornered the worldwide market on posting straight press releases. So let’s take a look at a couple from the inbox today…
The North Mississippi Allstars are set to release their first live concert DVD on June 26th — the new disc will be called Keep On Marchin’:
Six Hi-Definition cameras beautifully capture the November 11, 2005 performance at the Higher Ground. The show was one of many the band did in support of their Grammy-nominated sixth record, “Electric Blue Watermelon.”
