Pearl Jam has a long history of gigs in Chicago which we detailed for Venue Segues in October ’11. Pearl Jam also announced a July 16th gig in London, Ontario today.

Both dates feature no opening acts. Pearl Jam will announce a U.S. Fall Tour in the coming months.

Towards the end of Pearl Jam’s marathon set at Prague’s 02 Arena on July 2, 2012; the group’s front man Eddie Vedder told the Czech audience they were one of the best crowds of the tour “no bullshit.” Vedder and the band returned the favor by delivering a relentless performance that focused on their harder-edged material.

A group of fans who go by the name “Blink Eye Productions” created an incredible document of the show thanks to their hi-def camera and the use of a crystal-clear soundtrack. Check it out…

Bloggy Goodness: Funky Meters New Year’s @ Capitol Theatre

When the initial schedule for the first few months of concerts at the newly-reopened Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York was announced the Steve Miller Band was set to play there on New Year’s Eve. Apparently there’s been a change in plans as that show has been cancelled and been replaced by a funkier option. The Funky Meters will headline The Cap on New Year’s Eve with Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk set to open. Tickets will run $90 and $45 and will go on sale soon. And of course this news comes out just minutes after we posted our 2012-2013 New Year’s Eve Concert Guide.

When your band already has a channel solely dedicated to them on SiriusXM it’s probably easy to arrange hosting your own show on it. Yesterday on Pearl Jam Radio, PJ lead singer Eddie Vedder did just that, when he premiered the very appropriately titled The Eddie Vedder Radio Show. The limited run show will feature Vedder’s “favorite songs, from early punk rock influences to unreleased material from his personal archives,” as well as “personal stories about his career in rock music.”

Video: Lukas Nelson – Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town (Pearl Jam)

Written by on 11.01.2012 | Lukas Nelson, Pearl Jam, Videos

Earlier this year Willie Nelson put out a riveting cover of Just Breathe by Pearl Jam that featured his son Lukas. The younger Nelson has been making quite a name for himself hitting the road hard with his Promise of the Real outfit. On Tuesday night Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real played at WoW Hall in Eugene, Oregon; where Nelson treated the crowd to a different Pearl Jam cover. Lukas sure sounds like his dad as he performs Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town. Check out Phishbeard of the Concert Confessions team’s video of the cover…

Video: Jay-Z and Pearl Jam – 99 Problems

Written by on 09.03.2012 | Jay Z, Made In America, Pearl Jam, Videos

The hip-hop and rock worlds collided head on last night in Philadelphia at the Made In America Festival, when festival curator Jay-Z sat in with legendary Seattle band Pearl Jam on the rapper’s 99 Problems. The guest spot was part of Pearl Jam’s encore at the end of their headlining set. That wasn’t the first time Hova delivered 99 Problems while fronting a rock band as he performed that trick in his home borough of Brooklyn with Phish on June 18, 2004. Take a look at last night’s take…

Videos: Eddie Vedder w/ Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers – The Waiting and American Girl

Written by on 06.25.2012 | Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Videos

Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder has made no secret of his appreciation for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers over the years. In the most-excellent documentary Running Down A Dream, Vedder discusses the first time he heard The Waiting and how much that song means to him. Last night in Amsterdam Vedder made the most of an off night from his band’s tour to sit-in with Petty and his group at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.

The first song Eddie sat in on was The Waiting in which the grunge rocker handled most of the vocals.

Pearl Jam Debuts Cover, Discuss Radiohead Tragedy, Play 10-Song Encore at European Tour Opener in Manchester

Written by on 06.21.2012 | News, Pearl Jam, Setlists

After a seven month break from touring Seattle grunge pioneers Pearl Jam returned to the road last night at Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England for the first show of their European Tour. The group mixed tracks from eight of their studio albums with three covers during the 26-song, banter-filled performance.

After taking the stage to a pre-recorded version of Metamorphosis 2 by Philip Glass, Pearl Jam opened with Release and followed the Ten track up with Do The Evolution. One of the first surprises of the night came in the seventh slot as the group performed the Jeff Ament-penned Pilate which was last played in Europe 12 years ago to the day. Later in the main set, Pearl Jam debuted Why Can’t I Touch It?, a Buzzcocks cover from the British punk band’s Singles Going Steady LP.

Following a take on Joe Strummer’s Arms Aloft, Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder discussed what a great human being and musician Strummer was which led into the singer’s take on the Radiohead stage collapse. Vedder mentioned that the band’s crew was as close to them as their families, so he could only imagine what Radiohead was going through having lost a member of their “family.” The 10-song encore concluded with a cover of Neil Young’s Rockin’ In The Free World that saw John Doe from opening act X play tambourine and help with backing vocals.

Check out last night’s setlist…

Pearl Jam returns to the Manchester Evening News Arena tonight.

Bloggy Goodness: Box Of Ryan Adams Acoustic Tracks

For a good stretch in the mid-aughts it seemed as if Ryan Adams was putting out a new record just about every few months. After stepping out of the spotlight for a handful of years, due to his struggles with an inner ear disorder, the prolific singer-songwriter returned in 2011 with the release with the highly recommended Ashes & Fire, an album he described as being full of  “elegant country-rock songs.” Tomorrow, Adams will get back to his old over-sharing ways as he will release Life After Deaf, a monster 15 LP vinyl-only box set. Yes, you read that right – 15 LPs.

According to our friends at CoS, “the set will feature will 144 tracks of Adams’ acoustic perfomances pressed on 15 LPs, as well a download card featuring all 144 tracks plus an additional 74 digital-only bonus tracks,” for a grand total of 218 tracks. The limited-edition set will go on sale tomorrow, via Adams’ webstore, at 1:30 PM EDT.

Finally, Pearl Jam is teaming up with Montana Democratic Senator Jon Tester for a pretty inventive concert giveaway for their September 30 gig, with Mudhoney, at the Adams Center in Missoula, Montana. The influential grunge-rock act will raffle off a prize pack that features round-trip travel and hotel accommodations, VIP passes to the show, where you’ll be sitting on the stage in reclining seats. And if that’s not enough you will also get to have dinner with the Senator and Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament. Any contributor to the Senator’s campaign will be automatically entered to win.

Video: Pearl Jam – Baba O’Riley

Written by on 05.23.2012 | Pearl Jam, Videos

Today’s video features Pearl Jam having a blast on stage from their 2003 DVD Live at the Garden as they revel in a big rendition of Baba O’Riley. I always enjoy hearing Pearl Jam play The Who classic during their later years, because I  used to have a bootleg a million years ago where they covered the song before anyone in the band even knew how to play the intro. They’ve certainly come a long way since the early days in their Pete Townshend tributes.
