Monday’s Hors d’Oeuvres: Busy As A B

Between attending the Newport Folk Festival, posting Chad’s articles from the Vibes and following the action at Lollapalooza it’s taken me a while to get up and running today. But never fear, this week’s Monday’s Hors d’Oeuvres is here.

Before we start delving into festival news, here’s some other heady linkage:

Since none of us made it over to Chicago for Lollapalooza 2008 we’ll look to others to fill us in on what went down at Grant Park…

Tour Dates: Phil At The Warfield

Written by Some Dude on 03.14.2008 | Phil Lesh, Return To Forever, Tour Dates

The Warfield Theater was host to 21 Grateful Dead show, 88 Jerry Band shows and numerous nights of Dead side projects over the years. Come this May, Phil Lesh along with Friends will take up residency at the legendary venue for a five-night run - bringing their tally to 30 performances. The bass player seems to have something special up his sleeve as the message on his website reads “join us in celebrating 28 years of Grateful Dead history at the Warfield Theater”.

If jamming to some Live Dead ain’t your thang, then maybe one of these newly announced tours might have headed out for a night on the town…

Finally 1970s jazz-rock fusionists Return To Forever reunite for the first time in thirty years. The classic line up consisting of Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola and Lenny White will embark on a massive 50 date world tour starting May 29th.

Incredible Jazz Fusion Returns…To Forever

Written by Scott Bernstein on 12.19.2007 | Return To Forever

We’ve said often that 2007 will forever be known as the year of the reunion. And now it looks 2008 will offer more of the same.

Return To Forever, one of the best bands you’ve probably never heard of, takes to the road next year for their first shows in 25 years. The legendary jazz-fusion supergroup influenced a whole generation of musicians from the day keyboardist Chick Corea put together the first incarnation of the band in 1972.

Rock and jazz fans don’t agree on much, unless Return To Forever is involved in the conversation. No one fused the genres together as well as they did, so we’re counting the minutes until their return.

Return To Forever hit their peak in 1976 when Corea surrounded himself with the major talents of bassist Stanley Clarke, guitarist Al Di Meola and drummer Lenny White. Luckily for us, it’s that legendary lineup that takes the stage for 40-50 shows next summer. Corea promises the group will play material from the albums they played in the ’70s, but we wouldn’t mind hearing what these guys come up with today. Even Xenu’s gotta approve of this reunion.
