On a day rife with major news announcements in our cosy corner of the music world, I offer youse our regular Tuesday department for your consumption…

Think The Gourds’ unique take on Gin and Juice was both clever and well-played? Well, this clip puts it to shame. To shame, I says. Check out this fucking phenomenal clip of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Bruce [Awesome] Hornsby and John Anderson making Superfreak their bitch at CMT Crossroads:
- Since I mentioned it, I feel an obligation to post it. From Wakarusa 2005, let’s watch The Gourds sip on a little Gin and Juice. Two quick notes here: 1. Since the lyrics are a bit law-unfriendly, any chance the WakaGestapo searched their personal campground for contraband? 2. How pissed would you be if you went to see The Gourds’ set and they didn’t play this? Riots.
- Steely Dan’s headed back out on tour, and that’s not swiss cheese: It’s gouda. No, it’s greata. We love The Dan. A cool clip of Kid Charlemagne from VH1’s Storytellers hit YouTube this weekend, and I think we should all watch it together. Fagan’s got a freakin’ keytar for chrissakes. Sickness.
- Time to drop some jazz love down on this post, a tribute to one of my favorite musicians ever, Milt Jackson. Here’s a cool version of True Blues by the underappreciated Modern Jazz Quartet.
- When Bob Weir sat in with Hansen I knew that anything was possible: space travel, the tooth fairy, NBA-tall Chinamen. Now I’ve seen it all — Justin Timberlake playing bass in an animal costume with The Flaming Lips.
- Type “Phish” into YouTube and you’ll find any number of schwag bands and amateur bedroom musicians attempting to re-create the beauty of the band. Rarely does anyone approach music that resembles the original. There are a few exceptions, though, and this is one of them: A side project called Give Us The Money Lebowski recently uploaded a version of Guyute onto the world wide web, and by golly, it’s delicious.
She will never let your spirits down…once you get her off the street. Yowwww!
