Sarah Siskind: Say It Louder

[rating=4.00]

“There’s something about life that’s worth living,” sings Sarah Siskind on “Worth Fighting For,” one of many standout tracks on her newest album, Say it Louder. Over 13 tracks, Siskind delivers messages on love, regret, and ultimately, hope for the future through vocals that possess seemingly endless range.

“Conversation With Fear” is probably the most sonically stimulating cut– complete with Jerry Douglas’ lap steel and Joe McMahan’s electric guitar–while “Reasons to Love” finds Siskind alone at the piano, resulting in one of the more heartfelt songs recorded this year. Up until now, you may have only known Siskind through Alison Krauss, who covered “A Hundred Miles or More,” which received a Grammy nomination, or Bon Iver, whom Siskand toured with in 2008. But, Say it Louder is such an album that should make waves out of Siskand’s own direct talents, all of which are hard to deny.
