Tour Dates: Matis’ Festival Of Lights

For those of you looking for an alternative to the hipster Hanukkah shows from veteran indie-rockers Yo La Tengo, look no further than across the river where Matisyahu will host his Festival Of Lights - splitting the shows between Webster Hall and the Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Now in its third year, the event has been expanded to run the course of the eight night holiday and will feature a diverse group of support acts including The LeeVees, U-Melt, Assembly Of Dust and Brett Dennen.

If reggae music isn’t your thing, than maybe one of these recently announced tours will interest you…

Finally, for those of you that find yourself in and around the great state of Colorado next week you may want to consider checking out the special four-night run by The Motet who will be joined by former SCI keyboard player Kyle Hollingsworth. Together, the augmented act will play the music of the Talking Heads with the aid of Deep Banana Blackout guitarist Fuzz, vocalist/percussionist Jans Ingber, vocalists Liza Oxnard and Carrie Sangiovanni, keyboardist Joey Porter and bassist Paul McDaniel. The shows will take place at Ft. Collins’ Hodi’s Halfnote (10/29), Boulder’s Fox Theatre (10/30) and Denver’s Cervante’s Masterpiece Ballroom (10/31-11/1). So grab your tickets.

Walk It Off Release Party

Written by Some Dude on 04.08.2008 | Tapes n Tapes

We know this is kind of last minute, but if you don’t have any plans tonight we highly suggest you stopping by the Virgin Megastore in Union Square as Tapes ‘N Tapes will be doing a free in-store performance at 7 PM in honor of their sophomore release Walk It Off - which hits stores today.

If that wasn’t enough, here’s the cool part everyone who attends will get a wristband that lets them into a release party hosted by the band at Iona in Williamsburg, where according to our inside sources they’ll “be free hot dogs and snacks in the back garden and cheap beer at the bar!”

  • It took a couple weeks (who says gotta-publish-now blogs are the only game in town?), but the good people at JamBase have finally put up a super-comprehensive look at the various New Year’s concerts from around the country. It’s basically perfect, with great pics and text taboot, only someone’s missing: Where’s Big Red?
  • This week’s Tapers Section contains many heady kickdowns from This Week in the History of the Grateful Dead, so check that out. And on the topic of free Dead music — get your entries in now for Hidden Track’s Live At The Cow Palace contest
  • Tapes ‘n Tapes in Paris, check that shit out. Zoot Alors!
  • Umphrey’s McGee just released the 37th edition of their podcast series
  • The chances look good for a Police reunion — Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland, and Sting got together on Monday
  • Many epic rock concerts have been held at the New Haven Coliseum, which is being imploded on Saturday
  • We’re trying to pick out just one set of mp3s from Rock Music Daily, but there are too many good ones to make a decision. So go to the site and pick your poison, from the likes of Radiohead, Rose Hill Drive, and Los Lobos
  • Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Scaggs are releasing a new album on March 20th, and it includes a cover of Rick James’ Superfreak
  • SuperDee previews the Rotary Downs shows in NYC this weekend
  • Largehearted Boy takes a look at a bunch of interesting shows you can download via BitTorrent
