Yellowbirds Bid Farewell – Final Show Set For Nov. 1

Sam Cohen has decided to call it a day for his band The Yellowbirds. Cohen originally founded the band in 2009 as a solo project but went on with bandmate Josh Kauffman to play in various collaborations with the likes of Bob Weir, The National and even served as musical director for  The Complete Last Waltz in 2012 at The Warfield Theater and in 2013 at The Capitol Theatre. In a press statement he noted:

“The last few years of performing and recording with Josh Kaufman, Brian Kantor, and Annie Nero, and the year before that with George Lewis Jr, Wynne Bennett, Max Koepke, Brian Geltner, and Neil Berenholz, have been incredibly fun, educational and fulfilling. It’s gone places musically and physically that I never expected. The friends and fans we’ve made along the way have made it all feel so worthwhile. THANK YOU!

Cohen is now working on new music in a new manner, mostly by himself, which has led to a new record called Cool It, which will be released next year by Easy Sound Recording Co.  The record marks a shift in process, and in tone, and marks the begging of his new era as Sam Cohen . Cohen previously was a founding member of the Boston based Apollo Sunshine that disbanded in 2010.

The band’s last show is set to take place Saturday Nov. 1 at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY with MESIKO and THE POISON TREE (Steve Salett)
