There’s nothing like summer in Chicago, especially when it comes to the weather and live concerts. The Summer of 2010 is already off to a good start with the announcement of the impressive Pitchfork Music Festival lineup and word of a proposal to have three more night-time concerts at legendary Wrigley Field. Originally, it was reported that Phish was among the bands being considered to play the ballpark, but the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Dave Matthews Band will play two September concerts and keys men Billy Joel and Elton John will perform at Wrigley on July 7th.
The Sun-Times biggest competitor, the Chicago Tribune, claims that Phish is still in the running to perform at those two September concerts that the Sun-Times claims DMB will play. We can’t wait to see which Chicago paper got it right. Keep in mind that the Dave Matthews Band’s lengthy Summer Tour is slated to end in September in the Midwest.
In other Chicago Summer Concert News, Eric “God” Clapton will continue the trend of throwing Crossroads Guitar Festivals every three years on June 26 at Toyota Park. This year’s lineup includes ZZ Top, the Allman Brothers Band, Jeff Beck, Robert Cray, B.B. King, Jimmie Vaughan, Sheryl Crow, Los Lobos, Robert Randolph and Steve Winwood. The Crossroads Guitar Festival benefits the Crossroads Centre, the addiction-treatment facility founded by Clapton on the Caribbean island of Antigua in the early Nineties.
