Festival Season 2009 Preview: Langerado

As we approach the end of 2008, it’s time to start looking at what we can expect from the 2009 Festival Season. 2008 brought a number of new festivals, some of which were very good and others which didn’t seem to make anyone happy. What’s on tap for 2009? Let’s ponder…

Langerado [March 6 – 8, Bicentennial Park, Miami FL]

After moving the festival from Markham Park to Big Cypress in ’08, the promoters of Langerado are switching things up yet again by moving the festie to Bicentennial Park in Miami. Back in 2006 the festival expanded to four days, but this year they are going back to three days. Recently the festival has started to switch focus from jam to indie, which works out nicely as they are competing with Phish’s comeback in ’09. That being said we expect to see plenty of jammers in Miami, just not near the top of the lineup.

According to Consequence of Sound’s brilliant Festival Outlook page Robert Randolph is the only confirmed artist thus far. Folks at that site and on fan forums seem to think Pearl Jam would be a good bet to headline, although we haven’t heard anything about the Seattle-based band taking to the road next year. Other rumors heard round the campfire include Stone Temple Pilots, Beck and the pipe dream of Radiohead. Considering we’re a little more than a week from the initial lineup announcement, it’s surprising more info hasn’t leaked.

Do you plan to attend Langerado 2009? Any rumors you want to share with the rest of the class? Keep us posted by leaving a comment below…
