The National Football League stormed back into our lives as quickly as it exited back in early February. Last night’s game failed to deliver, but it at least showed us a glimpse of what our lives will be for the next 21 Sundays: on the couch with friends making inappropriate jokes. So in honor of the Colts lambasting of the Saints, here’s a football-related edition of…oh, shit, we got a problem — outside of Otis Redding’s Shake, this mix has nothing to do with football. My bad.
As always when I opt not to outsource this department to more capable hands, I can’t promise the order will be correct or the tags will be accurate. But these eight songs are in the following zip file, and they’re all spectacular:
- The Book I Read — Talking Heads: CBS Studios Demos (must listen)
- One Big Holiday — My Morning Jacket: 3/10/05 @ Langerado
- Shake — Otis Redding: Try A Little Tenderness (live)
- Porch — Pearl Jam: 3/16/92 (unplugged)
- Walking On The Moon — The Police: 10/1/83 in Barcelona
- Slow Down Boy — Ween: The Friends EP
- Heavy Metal Drummer — Wilco: 6/25/07 @ Hammerstein
- Night Speaks To A Woman — moe. with Trey Anastasio, Jen Hartswick, and Ray Paczkowski: Tsunami Benefit, 2/10/05 @ Roseland Ballroom
