If you’ve been a fan of HT for awhile you know about our love for the National Pastime. With spring in the air (although it did snow in NYC the other day) and the baseball season getting underway this week, we thought it would be appropriate to offer up a mix of baseball tunes for your listening pleasure. No John Fogerty or Simon & Garfunkel here, dug a little bit deeper, for some lesser known gems. So sit back and give a listen…

We kick things off with The Hold Steady’s bar-rock version of Take Me Out To The Ball Game, that gives shout outs to Craig Finn’s hometown team the Minnesota Twins. From there, we’ve got Peter, Paul & Mary with a song of the perils of playing Right Field. Next up is Bob Dylan’s bluesy ode to Hall Of Fame pitcher Catfish Hunter with the aptly named Catfish – which comes from the original installment of The Bootleg Series compilation. We continue on with Ted F*cking Williams from The Baseball Project’s fantastic debut album Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails – a must own for any baseball fan. Then, we’ve got HT faves The Felice Brothers with Cooperstown off their just released album Yonder Is The Clock. Finally, we close things out with Terry Cashman’s ballpark classic Willie, Mickey & The Duke (Talkin’ Baseball) which can be found on Baseball’s Greatest Hits.
