Friday Mix Tape: Work, Work, Work

With the continuing onslaught of hot weather I’m going to keep this intro brief, cause frankly I’m just tired of sweating and I’m trying just enjoy some frigid AC before going outside. This week’s Mix Tape is dedicated to all the working folks out there. We got six loosely themed songs based on going to work and being at work. So sit back, enjoy and play it loud…

We kick things off appropriately with Elvis Costello & The Attractions’ Welcome To The Working Week, from their 1977 debut My Aim Is True. From there we’ve got former Grandaddy front man, and current Admiral Radley lead singer, Jason Lytle with the title track from his solo debut Yours Truly, The Commuter. Then we’ve got Bob Marley & The Wailers with Rat Race off one their strongest studio albums Rastaman Vibration.

Next up we’ve got the Dave Matthews Band with Ants Marching from their 1994 breakthrough album Under the Table & Dreaming. Let’s get a little kitschy by turning to Ms. Dolly Parton with the title song to the even more kitschy guilty pleasure movie 9 To 5. This version comes from Essential Dolly Parton. Finally we close things out with The Beatles’ A Day In The Life from the Fab Four’s psychedelic-pop masterpiece Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
