Over the past few years, Yacht Rock mixes have been all the rage and for good reason – those smooth tunes from the late ’70s and early ’80s instantly transport us to a happy, carefree place where fruity beverages flow freely.
For this week’s Friday Mix Tape I’ve compiled six of my all-time favorite Yacht Rock tunes to help end the week on a high note.
We start off with a tune that I couldn’t get enough of as a four-year-old brat running around my suburban New Jersey neighborhood – Robbie Dupree’s Steal Away. Next, we’ve got one of Wyllys’ favorite songs from that magical period, Baby Come Back by Player. From there, we move on to a joint that never fails to bring a huge smile to my face – Rupert Holmes’ Escape (The Pina Colada Song). Once I got lost between The Moon and New York City and I didn’t fall in love which made me doubt Christopher Cross, but I still love Arthur’s Theme. As the weather continues to get cold, warm up your soul and roll through the jasmines in your mind with Summer Breeze by Seals & Croft. Finally, Toto transports us to another continent through the sweet tones of Africa. Put your feet up and enjoy…

So smooth!
That’s pretty smooth. If you’re ever in Atlanta, don’t miss a performance by the Yacht Rock Revue. As close to the real thing as we’ll ever get . . .
