Grateful Dead Unveil Winterland June 1977: The Complete Recordings
We’ve gotta hand it to Rhino for unveiling what looks to be the best Grateful Dead archival release in years – Winterland June 1977 – The Complete Recordings. These shows – June 6,7,8 – are legendary as the band was hitting on all cylinders kicking out 30-minute-plus Help > Slip > Franklin’s, obscene Scarlet > Fire’s and intense Estimated’s. This 9 CD set contains every note played at the three-night stand.
For $99.98 the nine discs come in a “beautifully designed box” with artwork by Emek; a 28-page booklet featuring a new essay by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke; photos from these shows taken by Ed Perlstein and Bruce Polonsky; and a couple of little pieces of period memorabilia they haven’t revealed yet.
Those preordering will also get a bonus disc featuring uncirculated material from the show in Chicago on May 12, 1977. Winterland June 1977 will ship on October 1st. CLICK HERE to stream some tracks from this release.
