H.O.R.D.E. to Return in 2012?

Next summer will mark 20 years since the H.O.R.D.E. Festival helped bring Phish, Widespread Panic, the Spin Doctors, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, the Aquarium Rescue Unit and Blues Traveler into the national consciousness during the Summer of 1992. What’s the best way to celebrate? By bringing H.O.R.D.E. back for the first time since 1998 and according to Col. Bruce Hampton the festival’s return is being discussed.

Our friends at NoLaDefender just posted an interview with Hampton, where the front man brought up the idea of a revitalized H.O.R.D.E.:

“There might be another H.O.R.D.E festival in 2012” he said.

He said that he would “absolutely be involved” if it happened.

While this is far from a confirmation, Bruce’s quote is the first we’ve heard about the traveling event’s possible return. The article is a worthwhile read and our New Orleans readers should check out the Colonel’s latest lineup at the Maple Leaf tomorrow night.

If H.O.R.D.E. returned in 2012, what bands would you like to see take part in either a one-off event or a return of the traveling festival? Let us know by leaving a comment below or on our Facebook page

  1. perhaps the NEW Horizons Of Rock Developing Everywhere…
I was at the ’93 incarnation and it was amazing. Let’s hope if they bring it back they can find the talent for this generation that the original celebrated.

  2. I was at two of the four July 1992 shows in the Northeast – Col Bruce and the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Widespread Panic, Spin Doctors, Phish and Blues Traveler (in that order on one stage). What an amazing line-up! Good times indeed. The Empire Court in Syracuse? Was that even a music venue? It was a small field in the middle of the NY State Fairgrounds. Insane.
