Hey Chuck!
What a great way to describe "discovering" Lead Belly. There are a lot of people who have had that same experience that you have been enjoying: Robert Plant, Tom Waits, and as you knew, Kurt Cobain to name just a few.

I am a balding white haired white guy, but in a way, Lead Bely may have saved me from a sterile and academic study of music and pushed me into the joy of making music.

TRO/Folkways publishers paid me to spend hours of time listening to Lead Belly. What a treat! I created the Lead Belly songbook: Lead Belly, no stranger to the blues which shows in detail just how Lead Belly tuned and played the guitar and sang.

chek it out at my website hlmusic.com

Charles,

i'm also a card-carrying member of the "SRRCLA"

please don't resign. Those giant "Nose in the Air' hats they make us where at the conventions are well worth your annual dues.

great piece on a legend BTW.

No, Chuck, I think you clearly know more about music than Kurt Cobain. Well, you at least know more about not killing yourself.

"...but in the way that dirt is rich and complicated. We don’t really know where it came from or why it exists, but dirt is magic."

I know where dirt comes from.

I do agree that it is magic though.
