Happy Holidays: The Seven Below Mix

[Originally Posted: December 25, 2009]

This Christmas, we continue a Hidden Track tradition by posting a compilation engineered and mixed by Alan “Pickles” Veniscovsky featuring parts of every Seven Below jam Phish laid down between December 31, 2002 and Coventry. Alan is our personal Santa as he has helped us with a number of projects over the year and we can’t thank him enough for his efforts.

Open your presents, fire up a warm drink and enjoy this mix of magical improv prepared by Alan and programmed by Wade, DaveO and myself…

We hope all our readers, commenters, contributors and artists we cover have a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for the love and support you’ve shown towards our little oasis on the interwebs since we first started.

Can you figure out which post-hiatus version isn’t included?

  1. Ben, no this won’t have tweezer in it, this mix is made from the song “7 Below” only…

Is this the mix from a few years ago that circulated on PT? If so, thanks, but I’ve played this mix out…

You guys are fantastic, this my favorite blog on the interwebs, but lets keep it fresh! Don’t let PT beat ya by a few years! 😉

  2. not trying to be a jerk, but why acc format? everyone including you mac geeks can play mp3. And mediashare is lame, glide doesn’t give you any webspace? does media share play nice with the iphone? It is hit or miss with android…

Merry Chrsitmas, from one of your biggest, yet most critical fans…

  3. A link and a stream of the Seven Below mix was first made public by this site on December 25, 2008. It may have circulated on Phantasy Tour, but that happened after we published our post. Each Christmas since that time, we’ve re-posted a link to the mix as a tradition of sorts.

There were a few technical reasons the mix was made available as an M4A file hosted by another site. Apologies if the way it was presented cause you a problem. Thanks for the kind words included within your comments.

  4. I disagree with Icculus on the “keep it fresh” point. I think the internet’s unwritten mantra of keep it fresh seems to have always trumped all other considerations, and now with the immediacy of Facebook, Twitter and with everyone on a smartphone the “shelf life” of any internet content is ridiculously short.

My main desire for music related content is “keep it good.” I don’t really care how fresh or new it is, I just care if it’s good. So I’m going to encourage reposting of such content (though there should be a disclaimer of “originally circulated spring 2008…” so people can determine if they it’s new to them or not), because there’s a lot of great stuff out there that people don’t know about/got glossed over by too many people in its original incantation.

So if you got some stuff out there you think didn’t get the attention it deserved first time around or is just too good to NOT bringing up again, I say repost ’em. Hell, maybe Hidden Track should have “Repost Rewind Day” on the last day of every month or something.

  5. Thanks Tallboycan,

We post probably an average of one “classic” post among our 40 articles each week. I fully agree with you that the incredibly short “shelf life” means that quality articles might be missed by much of our audience. As such, I have no problems re-running old content at the level at which we do. Our contributors put tons of effort into their work and deserve to have their best posts run more than once.

  6. I usually do not drop a great deal of comments,
but i did a few searching and wound up here Happy Holidays: The Seven Below Mix – Glide Magazine.
And I actually do have a couple of questions for you if it’s allright.

Could it be simply me or does it look as if like some of the remarks look like they are left by
brain dead people? 😛 And, if you are writing on additional places,
I would like to keep up with anything new you have to post.
Would you make a list of every one of your communal pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
