Heaven and Hell Takes Manhattan (& Canada)
The Ronnie James Dio-led version of Black Sabbath has recorded an album and will embark on a world tour as Heaven and Hell. It’s a different type of H & H.
The newly named band today announced the first 12 dates of the tour: Ronnie, Tony, Vinny and Geezer will play 11 Canadian dates before heading to a real country to play Radio City Music Hall. Can you imagine what Radio City will look like when these guys are done playing? I’m envisioning shit-smeared seats on eBay.

Pollstar has further details on this reunion of sorts (yet another):
It looks a lot like a Black Sabbath reunion, but the band is called Heaven And Hell. Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice will tour together for the first time in 15 years under the new name. The trek kicks off with 11 Canadian shows, along with an exciting one-night-only performance New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
The 12 current dates start March 11 in Vancouver and end March 30 with the New York City show. The Heaven And Hell world tour will continue until the end of the year with shows in the U.S., Asia and Europe. New dates will be announced shortly. Megadeth will be on all dates, previewing new material from their upcoming release, United Abominations. The tour also marks the return of Down, featuring Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown of Pantera, as well as Pepper Keenan of Corrosion Of Conformity.
Heaven And Hell’s heavy metal icons are also scheduled to release a new anthology entitled Black Sabbath: The Dio Years. The release date is set for April 3.
Megadeth, Down and Heaven & Hell — that’s gonna be a fucking nasty show.

Heaven and Hell played here Saturday night. Bottom line: one of the worst concerts I’ve ever seen. Down was awful, and Megadeth, though the playing was fierce as expected, sounded, um…tired. Just stale. But I was willing to put up with all of that to see Sabbath once again, and boy was I let down.
It is not until you listen to the “Dio years” for an hour and twenty minutes that you realize that they really didn’t have all that much good stuff without throwing some Ozzy-era stuff into the mix. RJD’s voice was way too low in the mix, and the rest of the band just stood there. No stage show to speak of, and no energy, though Dio did his wee little best on occasion. Other than I, Heaven and Hell and the finale, Neon Knights, the show was very, very disappointing in terms of performance and song choices. I saw more than a few people flat-out leave, some not making it to the halfway mark of the set. I’m a drummer but jeezus…Appice killed over ten minutes with his solo which was the same one he’s been using since the Sacred Heart tour. There was absolutely NOTHING in the show stir the heart or to make you feel like you were seeing anything but a bunch of oldtimers going through the motions. Incredibly disappointing.

I can deal with that. Well played, gents. Sorry I got my dander up – just came back from Vegas and got into a huge fight with a redneck about my supposedly second-tier country and I guess I was still edgy. My bad.

Mike, I think you’ll find that Scotty and I are bigger fans of Canada than most Americans. I even spent the 1999 > 2000 millennium celebration at the CN Tower. Jokes are jokes, and we love ‘em around here. Make sure to put on your thick skin suit when you click on the link to come here…
February 23rd, 2007 at 11:53 am
Actually, Scott, I’ll give you credit – that was pretty witty. It’s just so exhausting hearing shots like that when 99.9% of Americans haven’t the first clue. Sorry I teed off there, and you were right to call me on it.
Oh, and the plural for moose is still moose. And yes, we have about 33 million moose in Canada, right. :-)
February 22nd, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Yeah Eh-ce.
Mike forgot to mention that Canada also has more Moose. I think they even have more moose than people.
What’s the plural for moose anyway?
February 22nd, 2007 at 4:27 pm
I take it you don’t have jokes up in Canada. They are all the rage down in the states.
February 22nd, 2007 at 4:26 pm
“A real country”? Such a typically American statement. Canada has a higher GDP, less debt, less religion, a higher standard of living, higher average education, and a better health care system, and yours is a “real” country? You know nothing about any other country than your own, I am quite sure, and your ignorance shows.

The latest:
The first U.S. gig for the HEAVEN AND HELL tour will be March 30 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. There will be no opening act for this show; it’s just HEAVEN AND HELL. The band is expected to play an extra-long set at this concert. Tickets are priced between $54.00 and $74.00 and go on sale Friday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m.
Both Geezer and Ronnie said that it is pretty likely there will be no Ozzy-era tracks played during the HEAVEN AND HELL shows. The setlist will consist exclusively of material off the “Heaven And Hell”, “Mob Rules” and “Dehumanizer” albums, plus the three new songs written and recorded for the upcoming compilation CD, “Black Sabbath: The Dio Years”.
