  1. 4.11.72 – Newcastle. This show has a little bit of everything – one of the last pedal steel versions of Looks Like Rain, an outstanding Playin’, quite possibly the best Truckin’>Other One of the tour, and go back and check out Jerry’s vocals during the China>Rider – out of nowhere and truly inspired! Along with 4.29, I think I’m looking forward to the upgrade of this show the most…..

  2. Without question the show on 05-18-72 Kongressaal, Deutsches Museum, Muenchen, West Germany!

Just look at that 2nd set: Top Of The World> Me & My Uncle, Ramble On, BIODTL, Dark Star> Morning Dew> Drums> Sugar Magnolia

    Scorching!

And, hey, that first set wasn’t too shabby either!

  3. 4/26/72 Frankfurt thanks to the Hundred Year Hall release (the 1st after Jerry died I think). The jamming around ‘going down the road’ explains why I love this era of the Dead.

    Thanks!

  4. May 3, 1972 at Olympia Theatre, Paris – This show had 3 tunes make it on to the original Europe ’72 album and my first Dead album: Jack Straw, China Cat/Rider and Tennessee Jed

  5. Just a perfect classic 72 Dead setlist. Rough and raw sounding. Love it.

  6. My favorite show would be:

May 10, 1972 at Concertgebouw, Amsterdam

Mainly because I love saying “Concertgebouw”

  7. I’d have to say Rockin the Rhein is my CURRENT favorite show. But once I get my hands on this sweet box set that might change.

  8. Rockin’ the Rhein is amazing! Been listening to that for a long time – never seems to get old!

  9. Rockin’ The Rhein 4/24/72, 45 min. Dark Star -> Uncle -> Dark Star; nuff said. I play/suggest the first set for people just looking into the Dead.

  10. May 3, 1972 – That Jack Straw is the first Dead song I heard that made me stop what I was doing and think, “i need to know more about this band”

  11. May 26th. Last show of the tour and the last for dear old pigpen plus this sounds great to me

Jack Straw Chinatown Shuffle China Cat Sunflower I Know You Rider Not Fade Away. Also I have noticed there is another kyle on here and I would not like to be tarred and feathered. Hope you can check by email!

  12. Rotterdam May 11, 1972 hands down is the best show from Europe 72. IMHO, my favorite Grateful Dead show ever. Opening with Playin’ the passion in BTW, Two Souls. The closing of the show from Dark Star – > Sat Nite will blow your mind. Flawless setlist top to bottom with the band coming at you for 3 plus hours. Strap on your seatbelts.

  13. 4-17-72, my goodness gracious – I could watch those videos from Tivoli everyday for the rest of my days and it never gets old.

  14. Way too young to have gone in 72. Started in 80 and ran til Jerry passed. I can listen to any of these shows and imagine the vibe in the room. Listening intently as the band transistioned from one sone to the other and guessing the song. Always listening for the big bust out or extended space jams. Now at 46 and still following Further i sit in the venue and always feel like I am 17 and that is the voyage

  16. My first tape of Europe 72 was the first set to 5/23, The Strand Lyceum. Chock full of great stuff from Pigpen – Mr. Charlie, Next Time You See Me, Chinatown Shuffle, Two Souls in Communion, Rockin’ Pneumonia…oh yeah!

  17. Hey there. Great contest!. One of my first tapes was from the Olympia Theatre in Paris. Never looked back! Thanks.

  18. May 26, 1972 — A Monumental Peformance

The best first set ever. 19 songs over 2 hours. Highlights include Playin in the Band, Cumberland Blues, Jack Straw, all the Pigpen tunes, and closing with China->Rider, NFA->GDTRFB->NFA! And the second set opening of Truckin->Epilogue->The Other One->Morning Dew … it doesn’t get any better than this!

  19. Pigpens best and last moments at the mike was at the Lycum while he sang 2 souls in communion. Just a classic blues tune that reinstated that Pig was the driving force of The dead in the early years. Always loved, always missed.

  20. “Jack Straw”, “China Cat Sunflower”, “I Know You Rider” and “Tennessee Jed” – May 3, 1972 at Olympia Theatre, Paris

  21. 4-29-72 Hmaburg Germany, have a really old crappy copy of this tape that I can’t even listen too anymore. But Dark Star>Sugar Mags>Caution to end the set and a double encore!!! Can’t wait to get some of these remastered shows!
