Reminder HT Giveaway: Warren Haynes DVD

Recorded live at Warren Haynes’ 18th Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, NC on December 16th, 2006 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, The Benefit Concert Volume 8 is the third release in an on-going series documenting the annual concerts. As with each previous benefit, all proceeds from this series of concerts and CD and DVD releases benefit Habitat For Humanity, an international non-profit organization dedicated to building housing for those in need of shelter.

The 2006 concert saw Warren Haynes put together a stellar lineup of musicians featuring Gov’t Mule, Dave Matthews, The New Orleans Social Club, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, The Taj Mahal Trio and The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic. Warren Haynes also welcomed very special guests Randall Bramblett, Taylor Hicks, Branford Marsalis, Mike Barnes, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson & Family), Brendan Bayliss (Umphrey’s McGee), Kevn Kinney (Drivin N Cryin), Robert Kearns (The Bottle Rockets) and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic).

The Benefit Concert Volume 8 offers more than 3 hours of incredible music from The New Orleans Social Club’s version of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” featuring Branford Marsalis to Gov’t Mule and Dave Mathews’ scorching cover of Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer” to the all-star “I Shall Be Released” finale.

  1. My favorite Warren sit in occured on 09.24.2003 at Dave Matthews Band at Central Park. He TORE UP Jimi Thing and Cortez on what was already one of the band’s most memorable (100,000 people, free) and best shows. The playing speaks for itself, those versions are among the best.

  2. If you had to pick a Phish song to feature Warren’s slide guitar, is there anything even close to Funky Bitch? It’s the funkiest bitch I’ve heard and if that wasn’t enough, Warren stayed for the encore and tore up While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Check it out here:

  3. I’ve been blown away by many Warren sit-ins, but my absolute favorite comes from last month. Warren killed it sitting in with the Lee Boys at Sullivan Hall.

  4. Bonnaroo 2005 sitting it with Widespread for their headlining set. He played Guilded Splinters with them and it wasn’t so much the song as it was the moment.

  5. One of my favorite Warren moments was at Shoreline 9/17/99 for Phish’s encore of Misty Mountain Hop. We all know Trey’s no slouch but Warren just brought the house down. His sit in the next night on Viola Lee Blues was also killer but the Zeppelin cover was absolutely blistering.

  6. Bonnaroo 07 was the ULTIMATE sit in. Except it was everyone else sitting in with Mule and Warren. Bob Weir, John Paul Jones, Hot Tuna (all of em’), Luther Dickenson. From midnight till about four twenty, am, this was the show to see! !

  7. my favorite sit in from mr.haynes is during a zambiland orchestra back in the 90s. these were benefits put together by jeff sipe and were amazing moments of improvisation and conducting. a precursor to the everyone orchestra. also such a nice big guy.

  8. Well, i had no such privilege to see Warren without Gov’t Mule, but i will, i’m sure… You know, for us (in Europe) there’s a few sits of this great guitarist…

  9. My favorite Warren Haynes sit-in is on a Big Sugar album called ‘Heted’. Warren sits in to cover Bachman-Turner Overide’s ‘Let It Ride’. Great version. It would be nice to see the Mule play that one live

  10. The best I’ve seen was when Warren turned up at The funky Meters show at BB Kings two years ago and just completely tore it up on a bunch of meters tunes and some sweet covers. He traded solos with meters guitar player Brian stoltz and was simply transcendent

  11. Unfortunetly I haven’t been lucky enough to see him yet, but I would have loved to see him with the Dave Matthews Band in Central Park. Beat it was great.

  12. Warren Haynes w/ The Dead @ Bonnaroo ’04

The beginning of the second set:

St. Stephen > The Eleven > Dark Star > Shine On You Crazy Diamond
    > Dark Star

Almost unfair to throw that Shine On in the middle of that.
    served > shocked

“Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.”

  13. This spring was typical Warren. Ratdog at the Beacon…Warren sits in (and almost saved the show!). Next night, WSP at the United Palace…out comes Warren! I half-expected him to show up at my apt after the show to sing my a lullaby.

  14. tobacco road on 41st st., when it was still open. After peakin’ at the beacon. Jamin’ with some of the bros and warlocks MC on hand.
