Radiohead in the wee small hours of last night/this morning digitally shipped off In Rainbows to nearly 756 million people. We don’t have the actual sales figures in front of us, but if we use the rubric that one blogger’s online fawning equals 100 non-bloggers’ purchasing, that’s our unofficial estimate. We received our copy this morning, but we’re waiting for that perfect moment to crack into this badboy. Our Glide Magazine cohort E-Dub posted this incredible review already. Well said.
So what say you, fans? All it’s cracked up to be? Terrible terribleness? Not downloading it on general principle? Hate British people? Let your voice be heard…

they continue to push the envelope. every song is f’ing amazing. If I was in a band I would just throw in the towel
I’m a hardcore radiohead fan, and as much as i love finally getting to hear songs like 15 step and videotape in mastered format… im a bit dissapointed. It’s a damn good album, but theres a difference between good and radiohead good. As far as a top of 07 list goes, id be incline to put In Rainbows on the list but underneath neon bible…. just an opinion
what are the #’s on actual paying customers for this album?
Hey, Johnny — I think Ace put it that way because Radiohead has actually refused to reveal how many they sold:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003656183” Billboard
No figures are yet available for how many downloads have been sold, or the average amount paid under the band’s “honesty box” pricing policy. However, unofficial sources suggest most customers have chosen to pay around £5 ($10.17) for the download edition. The album will not be U.K. chart eligible, according to the Official U.K. Charts Co.
Why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free?
IR is good at first listen. In typical Radiohead fashion, they kick if off strong. You can’t NOT do the Thom Yorke dance when 15 Steps kicks into gear about 45 seconds in to the song/album.
The only complaint so far is that it seems top heavy – face melters up top and junk on the bottom. But I’m only about 3 listens in. I thought Kid A sucked when I first heard it(!)
i actually feel like it gets better as you move through it. That whole mid-section, especially All I Need…is soooo brilliant.
also – this quote sums it up…well said 🙂

I think it’s better than fellatio…
My blog has a review up now of the record, if anyone would like to read it.
Even 500,000 at and average of $10.17 (I heard $5 on the news, so who knows?) is $5,085,000. That is with no packaging, no transportation of product, no cover art or graphics. There was no real promotion costs because the idea was so innovative they got internatinal publicity immediatly. Studio time and some computer team were the biggest costs of this project.
Bloody brilliant!! I love it when a plan works out.
Now I am one listen in and am really enjoying it.
what news source said they dished out half a million downloads? do you have some kind of source TJ? thanks
I think that was an “If” hypothetical, Andrew.
Ah… I’ve heard theyre being wicked tight lipped on all of this, but seeing as theyve deffinitly got numbers on how many theyre selling, if they come out next tuesday with more albums downloaded than the number one artist on the billboard charts, theyre not only proving the RIAA to be dated but the charts themselves… VIVA LA REVOLUTION
