Jay Lane’s CapToTheCopa Residency Ends Early

UPDATE: There will be one more CapToTheCopa show on Wednesday night featuring Steve Liesman and the Mooncussers in the small bar at the Copa that’s scheduled to start around 11PM. The band will be joined by local vocalist Meredith Dimenna of Rye for the free performance.

While Furthur has been holding court at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York since opening a nine-show run a week ago; the band’s former percussionist – Jay Lane – has been leading a residency of his own for a series of after shows dubbed “CapToTheCopa” at a nearby restaurant.

Over the course of the first few CapToTheCopa shows there was a slew of surprise guests including Bob Weir, Sunshine Becker, John Kadlecik, Jeff Chimenti and Joe Russo of Furthur. CapToTheCopa was expected to run through Thursday, but the rest of the shows have been canceled after Lane was called back to the West Coast for recording sessions.

Jay Lane penned a note about the situation…

Dear Friends

Unfortunately, I’ve been called back to the West Coast for recording sessions, so we have to cancel the remaining CaptotheCopa shows. But damn did I have fun. Five cooking nights of electric music and jams.

Deep thanks to all the fans and friends who came out. Special thanks to Bob Weir, Sunshine, JK, Jeff Chimenti and Joe Russo from Furthur who came out after playing the Cap to keep the jam going.

And, of course, all the talented musicians who took the stage: Jamal and Larry Peoples, Paul and Josh Kates and the Reflections crew, Steve Liesman all the guys in the Stella Blues Band, Gent Treadly, Norbert Satchell, Paul Pesco, Jason Crosby, Aaron Maxwell, Reid Genauer, David Bright and Leslie Mendelson. It was an unforgettable lineup over five amazing nights. And a big bow to Jerry Roche who worked hard behind the scenes to make it all happen. It all couldn’t have happened without Matt Busch from Furthur and Chris McCutcheon from TRI Studios.

Finally, it was a thrill to debut my new project on the East Coast: Jay’s Happy Sunshine Burger Joint. Thanks to Perry Winston, CB, Sunshine and all the others. We’re just getting started with this very cool groove. We will back in force.

Thanks for all your support and see you soon.
Love,

Jay
