Jim James: Off The Record and the Stage

Earlier this evening in Iowa City, My Morning Jacket was forced to cancel their show after just 45 minutes when guitarist/lead singer Jim James slipped and fell off the stage during a typically wild performance of Off The Record. According to the folks on the MMJ board, a few crew members dragged JJ backstage before making the decision to send him to a nearby hospital. If you’ve ever seen James perform with his band then you probably realized this was bound to happen the way he runs around all Taz’d up.

After a ten minute delay the band members took to the stage to announce the cancellation of the show. Just a few minutes ago, bassist Two-Tone Tommy’s wife shared this update from the band:

Jim fell between two of the subs at the front of the stage and hurt his leg.  He’s just had some x-rays and is resting at hospital.

Big thanks to the intrepid fans who showed up at the ER and to everyone who’s voiced concern.

We’re still waiting for word on Chicago, but I promise as soon as we know, you will.

Let’s hope JJ isn’t too roughed up, so MMJ can continue their tour.

  1. I know I’m old and fragile, but I have to admit I was a little nervous he was gonna fall off those side risers at RCMH. Jim is a whirlwind on stage…hope he’s on the mend quickly!
