Phish (@phish) performs tonight in Kansas City for their first time at the sold-out Starlight Theatre. It will also be the first show for music journalist McLain Johnson (@mcclainjohnson). Our friends at YEMblog (@YEMblog) hipped us to Johnson’s tweet seeking tips on covering his first Phish show.

Johnson, who writes for a variety of outlets, should be prepared for a marathon, not a sprint, as the show will no doubt push 3+ hours.  He should feel free to ask those around him questions, just not during songs, and particularly not during Reba jams.  And he should come with an open mind and his dancing shoes because we think it’s just fine for a reporter to get down at a show. Oh, and he should steer clear of changing words to start with “ph” in his post-show review.

What else should Johnson be ready for? Send him a tweet with the hashtag #firstphshowtips and let him know what he’s in store for. Two things we already know are what the limited edition posters and pins for tonight look like:
