Langerado [Finally] Announces 2008 Lineup
Add Langerado to the growing list of festivals remaking themselves so as to benefit from economies of scale. Or something. We don’t know really know what that means.

For better or worse, the big outdoor festival scene continues to diversify from what were typically jamband-dominated affairs to more varied lineups capable of drawing both hippies and hipsters. We’re slowly phasing out free hugs, nitrous tanks and grilled cheese while simultaneously ushering in silent contempt, post-ironic T-shirts and [something hipsters eat].
This one’s a bit more curious, but for the most part the trend continues: Five days after missing the initial artist deadline, Langerado promoters finally confirmed REM, the Beastie Boys and Phil Lesh will headline the 2008 Langerado Festival alongside 311, The Roots, Ani DiFranco, Thievery Corp. and more. Now settled at Big Cypress on March 6th - 9th, Langerado aims to double the size of last year’s crowd at Markham Park in Sunrise, which hosted the festival for the last three years.
Tickets go onsale this Friday at 12pm and include camping as well as late night shows on site. Read on for the full lineup, and look for more artists to be added soon:

I miss Bonnaroo 2004.
sick lineup! great job by all involved
Phix comming out of retirement? recreate THE SHOW?
everyband at festy should be required to play a phish tune :D
I think tix are on sale Friday, not Thursday. But maybe I got that wrong. Anyway, though we won’t get as many veggie burritos in 08, (possibly ahi tuna for the ironic hipsters?) the lineup is still pretty ill. Count me excited, anyway.
Its not even close to being a “hipster” fest. Look at the whole lineup - Railroad Earth, Raq, American Babies, Pnuma Trio, BAd Plus, The duo, Spam Allstars, P-Groove, Sam Bush, Phil, Claypool, Umphrey’s, Matisyahu, Mickey Hart, Robert Randolph, Wood Brothers, phix, Wailers, Meters, Dark Star Orchestra. The only thing hipsters have to cling onto is shitty Vampire Weekend. Supefly/Roo would never invite so many heady acts to one fest these days…
Just “Spam Allstars” now? No “Le Spam”? Looks like someone passed their citizenship test!
I hear that REM is just gonna play a 7 hour “Don’t Go Back To Rockville.” That’s the word on the (fey, bald) street.
great to see these names on the list:
311
funky meters
antibalas
ozomatli (have they replaced their lyricist?)
the new deal
arrested development
the lee boys (never seen this cats…desperately want to)
These are the acts that stood out to me as ‘not your everyday’ festival draws.
I like this lineup a lot. (in ‘dumb and dumber’ persona)
Ouch says the Vampire Weekend fan.
Not particular psyched about the headliners, but they did a great job attracting the smaller and midsized bands…
The press release says tickets go on sale on Thursday November 16th, so I’m a bit confused. I’ll try to find out if tickets go on sale Thursday or Friday
Friday at noon it is
Well, they picked the wrong band from Athens, but I’m still pumped. Seriously doubt Panic gets added later.
Yeah, doesn’t look super-hipster-friendly at all. I canm’t believe I’ve never heard Vampire Weekend. I hear about them a lot though. Sounds like a novelty I wouldn’t like, but who knows?
They happen to be a fantastic new band that people are going to love to hate because they are getting a lot of press - Rolling Stone featured them in their Hot List issue, Spin had a piece on them in their latest issue. If you like Graceland-era Paul Simon mixed with a bit of the Talking Heads and the Clash you’re going to like these guys. I did a post of them last week…..

Definitely one of my favorite bands that I stumbled upon this year, along with Okkervil River and Oakley Hall.
you’re right ‘dude’…I dig these cats.
thanks for the song off your blog. Vampire Weekend sounds fun.
“We mock what we don’t understand” - some famous dude
Line-up looks solid. I’d like to finally get to see Ghostland Observatory. Anyone know what day they are playing?
