Date & Venue: 2009-04-18 – DCU Center, Worcester MA
Taper & Show Download: Chris LaPorte

Sorting through the large amount of tapes pulled from the first week of Dead tour, I felt it appropriate that we lead this week off with the same song that was the focus of last week’s Cover Wars. The Dead continue their tour tonight in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

Artist & Title: Dave Matthews Band – Funny The Way It Is
Date & Venue: 2009-04-15 – Izod Center, East Rutherford NJ
Taper & Show Download: Keith Litzenberger

We’ve got a lot of huge acts this week, it’s sort of the theme. The Dave Matthews Band are out on the road and debuting material from their upcoming release Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King. It looks like this is only one of three songs from the album to hit the live stage thus far. DMB is in Raleigh, North Carolina tonight.

What we’ve got here is the gentler side of MMW as they encore with this old folk standard that was made recognizable to classic rock aficionados by its inclusion in Bob Dylan’s repertoire. This cover is also featured on the most recent MMW disc, Radiolarians II, that was released last Tuesday.

You can catch this trio tomorrow night, if you live in Poland.

ScottyB gave props to this WSP show earlier in the week, noting its length and song selection. This track is from Panic’s 2008 release Free Somehow, the group’s first studio effort with Jimmy Herring on lead guitar. WSP has wrapped up the early spring section of their tour and won’t be returning to the stage until June.

Artist & Title: Wilco – California Stars
Date & Venue: 2009-04-18 – Tennessee Theatre, Knoxville TN
Taper & Show Download: Jimbo Pollock

Wilco’s out on the road. Wilco’s got a new album coming out. But Wilco is not playing songs from the new album, not last weekend anyway. With no track from the upcoming release to choose from, I simply selected an old favorite of mine off of the Billy Bragg & Wilco album Mermaid Avenue. Wilco plays in Birmingham tonight.
