Last Week’s Sauce: April 26th – May 2nd

Artist & Title: My Morning Jacket – Carried Away
Date & Venue: 2010-05-01 Merriweather Post Pavilion – Columbia, MD
Taper & Show Download: Alex Leary

My Morning Jacket has just wrapped up their brief tour. They debuted a couple of new tunes on the run, and this one features Carl Broemel on lead vocals – a rarity from these guys. MMJ next plays at the Sasquatch Festival at The Gorge on May 29th.

I’m Amazed from the same show:

Artist & Title: Preservation Hall Jazz Band – ???, St. James Infirmary
Date & Venue: 2010-05-01 Merriweather Post Pavilion – Columbia, MD
Taper & Show Download: Alex Leary

I am not sure on the title of the first tune, but the second one is definitely St. James Infirmary. Most of the time I’ll edit out any banter/song introductions in Last Week’s Sauce, but this is a good one. These two tunes sound great, a nice tape pulled of both sets at this show. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s next road gig is May 30th at the Jacksonville Jazzfest.

A short but clear clip from the Merriweather Post set:

Artist & Title: RAQ – Carbohydrates Are The Enemy
Date & Venue: 2010-04-30 Bowery Ballroom – New York, NY
Taper & Show Download: T.J. Samulis

It was 19 months since the last time RAQ had hit the stage when they played to a packed Bowery Ballroom last week. Guitarist Chris Micheti reminded everyone of his fill-in duties for the Disco Biscuits by dropping multiple tDB teases throughout the evening. RAQ’s next gig is at Camp Bisco July 15th-17th.

A short video clip:

Artist & Title: Zen Tricksters – Cold Rain & Snow, It’s A Man’s World
Date & Venue: 2010-05-02 Brooklyn Bowl – Brooklyn, NY
Taper & Show Download: corey the groundhog

The Zen Tricksters celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s May 2nd 1970 show from Harpur College, which was officially released as Dick’s Picks Volume 8 at everyone’s new favorite venue Brooklyn Bowl. These two tunes were played in sequence, some tuning in between was edited out. The Zen Tricksters Acoustic Trio plays June 17th at Mexicali Live.
