The nature of this weekly feature is that it highlights the quick turnaround of recordings made of live concerts. As the years have gone on, it has become easier to turn around these tapes faster and faster. And with our point-and-shoot cameras getting better every year, it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to shoot some good video and upload it to YouTube. What is really fucking impressive about this week’s selections is that there are two different pro-shot videos officially released to accompany our audio. And one of them took place two days ago!
[Thanks to NeilyBoy for this week's photo]
And we continue to take all the selected tracks, normalize them, create some simple fades and put it into one easy to download MP3 for you.
In this era of frequently selling live concerts over the Internet, the freely available SBD patch is becoming somewhat of a rarity. So I was excited to see this show up with the SBD source on the Live Music Archive as I did my weekly search for audio from the previous week. It’s been a busy summer for Tom Hamilton & American Babies playing shows with Big Light, Tea Leaf Green, and Umphrey’s McGee. This track, was released on the Weight of the World – EP in April of this year. American Babies next play the Liberate Music & Arts Festival in Sheldon, VT on Friday August 20th.
READ ON for tracks from Gov’t Mule, Phish, and Umphrey’s McGee.
Last week marked the 15th anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s passing. And while Gov’t Mule didn’t have a show on the exact date of the anniversary there were a number of Grateful Dead/Jerry tunes sprinkled throughout last week’s setlists including this Morning Dew encore which features Jackie Greene. Sure it’s not a Garcia original, but it is what we all think of when we hear it. Gov’t Mule plays tonight in Westbury, NY and Jackie Greene opens.
This pro-shot video is from the 10th, goddamn that was quick. Brief interview snippets at the beginning:
Well Phish is back on the road and everyone is abuzz about the Cities from The (Ancient) Greek. It certainly was a great moment as the fired up crowd seemed to push the band to continue with the outro jam buy hooting and hollering at just the right time. Phish plays tonight at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, IN.
Phish keeps getting these official videos up quicker and quicker, here is the end of Mike’s Song -> Simple from The Greek:
And closing out we’ve got this nice segment from Umphrey’s McGee featuring some extended improvisation on their live staple In The Kitchen, followed by back-to-back covers: Billy Joel’s The Stranger and UM’s instrumental rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m On Fire, and closed out with the end of In The Kitchen. UM plays tonight at the House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC.
UM has played two gigs in the round with a rotating stage this summer, this video surfaced from Westbury, NY which features their mashup Sweet Sunglasses and the video features a full stage rotation over the course of the 11-minutes:
