Artist & Title: Ani DiFranco – Which Side are You On, Freight Train
Date & Venue: 2009-12-11 Orange Peel, Asheville NC
Taper & Show Download: manofz

The Orange Peel was the site of the pre-jam, the concert that takes place before the Annual Warren Haynes Christmas Jam down in Asheville, North Carolina. For these tracks, Ani is first joined by just Warren and for the second track both Warren and Jeff Austin from Yonder Mountain String Band. Ani says that she has just recorded the second tune with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for a benefit CD, more info on that here. The crowd is a little bit chatty, but a nice collaboration nonetheless. Ani next plays January 20th at the Harro East Ballroom in Rochester, NY.

READ ON after the jump for more tracks from the last weekend’s Warren Haynes Christmas Jam, Furthur and Old School Percy Hill…

Artist & Title: Furthur – Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo
Date & Venue: 2009-12-09 Hammerstein Ballroom, New York NY
Taper & Show Download: Freddie G

This piece is basically an audio week in review, and it’s always nice when I can let someone else do the work for me. In this case, ScottyB has already written his thoughts on this show, so all I have to do is cut up the audio and I’m done! Furthur next hits the stage on December 30th & 31st at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Fire On The Mountain from the night before:

Artist & Title: Gov’t Mule – Sugaree
Date & Venue: 2009-12-12 Civic Center, Asheville NC
Taper & Show Download: Z-Man

I easily could have had this be a “Christmas Jam” edition of Last Week’s Sauce, but I wanted to include the Furthur and Percy Hill tracks. There are tons more recordings of this show from all the artists on both the Live Music Archive and bt.etree.org. This 14-minute rendition of Sugaree features Jimmy Herring, Jackie Greene and Fred Eltringham. Gov’t Mule next plays on December 30th & 31st at NYC’s Beacon Theatre.

Artist & Title: moe. – Happy Hour Hero
Date & Venue: 2009-12-12 Civic Center, Asheville NC
Taper & Show Download: marcus

How do you get your band included in Last Week’s Sauce? Easy. Have Jimmy Herring sit-in. I’m a sucker for a guest appearance by Jimmy because I think he is one of the best guitarists alive. At the end of the tune one of the moe. guys says into the mic, “The thing I don’t get is that he just started playing guitar like a year ago.” HA! moe. next plays at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC on January 22nd.

Artist & Title: Percy Hill – Setting The Boat Adrift
Date & Venue: 2009-12-11 The Stone Church, Newmarket NH
Taper & Show Download: Ted Gakidis

Our good friend, and longtime Percy Hill aficionado, Stanch, took the trek up to the Stone Church last Friday for their reunion show and wrote a great review about it. Though they ended the night saying, “Thank you! We love you all so much for coming out. We’ll see you all soon!”, we don’t know when we will next see a live Percy Hill show.
