Artist & Title: Del McCoury Band – Cold Rain and Snow
Date & Venue: 2009-06-26 – The Crossroads, Kansas City MO
Taper & Show Download: Jeremy Lykins

This is the Del McCoury Band’s take on the traditional song Cold Rain and Snow. This arrangement is similar to that of the Grateful Dead’s which was similar to that of Obray Ramsey. The band has dates scheduled through March of 2010 and appears this weekend at the High Sierra Music Festival.

Artist & Title: the Disco Biscuits – Strobelights & Martinis > Minions > Strobelights & Martinis
Date & Venue: 2009-06-26 – House Of Blues, Atlantic City NJ
Taper & Show Download: Matt Quinn

While discussing with a friend what section of this show to include in this piece he asked me if there was a time cutoff – I told him no. So I ultimately decided there was nothing wrong with this 30+ minute section from the middle of the first set. The segment provides an interesting look into how tDB write their songs, or rather JUST HOW LONG things take with this band. Strobelights & Martinis was a track on the bizarre Bisco Lives 2 back in 2002 and was simply a trick lifted from the 9/1/2001 Mindless Dribble jam. Five years later, the jam would get reworked into a fully functioning song of it’s own. Additionally, sections of Minions first appeared in the 12/31/2004 Crickets. Minions only other appearance was in the same run of shows in 2007 at the Starland Ballroom. This past weekend in Atlantic City it appeared again for the first time in over two years. Like I said, it takes a while with this band. We’re talking about a group that promised to get their maybe-upcoming studio album out BEFORE Chinese Democracy.

Errr, sorry for the rant – this shit is awesome: If you like what you’re hearing, go download the rest of the set which features a jam on Daft Punk’s Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and the end of I-Man. tDB perform tonight in Indianapolis before playing both Rothbury and High Sierra this weekend.

Artist & Title: Guitarness – I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
Date & Venue: 2009-06-28 The Hungry Tiger, Manchester CT
Taper & Show Download: John Yungk

Guitarness is: Jeff Pevar and Scott Murawski (Guitar & Vocals), Dave Livolsi (Bass), Joe Janerelli (Drums). I once saw a set of music with Pevar & Murawski dueling at Camp Creek in Mariaville back in 2001 and we still talk about it to this day. They cover a lot of ground on this extended take of the Beatles’ classic. While this was the only “Guitarness” tour date of the year, Max Creek plays this weekend in Sterling NY, and Jeff Pevar appears this weekend at High Sierra Music Festival before heading out on tour with Jefferson Starship.

Artist & Title: Susan Tedeschi – Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright
Date & Venue: 2009-06-23 Port City Music Hall, Portland ME
Taper & Show Download: SmokinJoe

This is a great Bob Dylan cover that Susan Tedesch originally recorded on her 2002 release Wait for Me. Tedeschi has some International tour dates coming up, including appearances at both the Montreal and Toronto Jazz festivals this Thursday and Friday.
