Last Week’s Sauce features recordings of shows from the previous week. Thanks to prof_peabody – who had the lead singer of Los Campesinos roll up to his mic stand, lower it, and then sing it into it – for this week’s photo.

Artist & Title: Chris Barron – How Could You Want Him When You Know You Could Have Me
Date & Venue: 2009-11-12 The Mint, Los Angeles CA
Taper & Show Download: David Landsberger

It’s not very often I’ll repeat the same song on Last Week’s Sauce, but as I was doing my normal cruising around my download sites – I saw this solo acoustic show from the Spin Doctors’ Chris Barron. And I saw that he must have given a very lengthy introduction to the Spin Doctors tune I featured in September in this feature. Not only is the story mildly interesting, but the arrangement Barron plays is quite different than the one you are used to hearing. Barron next plays at Davinci’s Pub in Collegville, PA on December 4th with his band The Time Bandits.

READ ON for tracks from Joan Osborne, Lettuce, MMW & UM…

Artist & Title: Joan Osborne & The Holmes Brothers- Brokedown Palace
Date & Venue: 2009-11-10 Shea’s Performing Arts Center, Buffalo NY
Taper & Show Download: Lenny Stubbe

Joan Osborne gives a great introduction to this Grateful Dead classic, explaining it is her all-time favorite but that she could never convince The Dead to let her sing it. I played with the levels so you could hear the introduction a bit better, but you’ll notice a somewhat harsh volume swell, what can I say? An audio engineer – I am not. Osborne next plays at Symphony Space in NYC on December 4th.

Artist & Title: Lettuce – By Any Sheemans Necessary
Date & Venue: 2009-11-14 Bear Creek Music Festival, Live Oak FL
Taper & Show Download: Nick Burlison

Down at the Bear Creek Music Festival, a lineup quite simply dominated by funk acts, Lettuce welcomed Derek Trucks and Kofi Burbridge to the stage for this extended romp that features basically every member of the band. Lettuce next plays December 5th at New York’s Hudson Valley Resort & Spa with Chapter 2 and Break Science.

Artist & Title: Medeski Martin & Wood – Bubblehouse
Date & Venue: 2009-11-15 The Westcott Theater, Syracuse NY
Taper & Show Download: W Clark

MMW has been showing up in Last Week’s Sauce for a while now, and normally I am featuring tracks off The Radiolarian Series – the new shit if you will. This week I am choosing to make a nod in the direction of old-school MMW, the crowd-pleasing Bubblehouse that they used in the encore slot this past week in Syracuse. The band is currently in the Midwest, playing tonight at The Vogue in Indianapolis before making their way back east again.

Artist & Title: Umphrey’s McGee – Wappy Sprayberry
Date & Venue: 2009-11-11 The Opera House, Toronto ON
Taper & Show Download: BradM

The year is wrapping up with a bang for Umphrey’s McGee. As ScottyB has already recapped, UM had a weekend for the record books at South Burlington’s Higher Ground welcoming Mike Gordon for an extended jam on In The Kitchen, a 3-piece horn section (featuring Jennifer Hartswick, Dave Grippo and Bryan McNamara), and capped their Higher Ground run off with the debut of Heart’s Barracuda with JHa on lead vocals. But before all that started they were up in Canada on Wednesday and welcomed Jamie “Guitar” Shields to the stage for this take on the crowd-favorite Wappy Sprayberry. UM plays tonight at Mr. Small’s in Pittsburgh and closes their tour Friday/Saturday with two nights at DC’s 9:30 Club.
