Last Week’s Sauce October 4th – 10th
Last Week’s Sauce is a recurring column featuring recordings of shows from the previous week. Thanks to tgaikdis for this week’s photo.

This week I wanted to add a theme to the selections as I did when we did an All-Bonnaroo edition. Last week ScottyB ran a great list of touring jambands that didn’t make it out of the 2000’s. The five groups featured in this piece are jambands that are indeed going to make it as touring bands carrying their respective ensembles into 2010 and hopefully well beyond.
Artist & Title: Blues Traveler – But Anyway
Date & Venue: 2009-10-06 The Paradise, Boston MA
Taper & Show Download: Dave Mallick
If longevity is the name of the game this week, Blues Traveler is a good band to lead off having formed in 1987 and put out their first album in 1990. Sure, they might not be playing arenas anymore (The Paradise in Boston is a room all of the other bands in this feature have outgrown), but they’re still out there gigging. Blues Traveler plays tonight at The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC.

Artist & Title: the Disco Biscuits – Konkrete
Date & Venue: 2009-10-08 Casino Ballroom, Hampton Beach NH
Taper & Show Download: Matt Quinn
It looks like shortly after we flip our calenders over to 2010, the Disco Biscuits will release their first studio album since 2002’s Senor Boombox. You can hear the studio cut of Konkrete, a track off the upcoming album Planet Anthem, over at their website. tDB land in the midwest at the end of the month for a five-night Halloween run that will take them to Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and two shows in Illinois including the band’s first gig at the historic Auditorium Theater in Chicago on Halloween.

tDB also released their music video for another song on Planet Anthem titled You & I:
Artist & Title: moe. – 32 Things
Date & Venue: 2009-10-09 Town Ballroom, Buffalo NY
Taper & Show Download: Lenny Stubbe
moe. formed back in 1990 and by 1994 were touring and playing 60+ shows a year. Due to a death in the moe. family, the band canceled four gigs in the Midwest this week. The band will return to the live stage on Halloween at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany – a show that will feature songs chosen by fan voting.

The Day before this show, moe. also performed Akimbo as they accepted their nomination to the Buffalo Music Hall Of Fame.
Artist & Title: Umphrey’s McGee – Push The Pig > I’m On Fire > PtP
Date & Venue: 2009-10-08 House Of Blues, Cleveland OH
Taper & Show Download: Nikres
When you talk about a winning formula for touring, you don’t need to look too much further than Umphrey’s McGee. 2009 marks the ninth straight year that the band has logged over 100 shows. This audio selection features a first-time-played instrumental rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m On Fire sandwiched in between UM original Push The Pig. UM next plays October 21st in Seattle when they land in the Pacific Northwest, work their way down the west coast culminating with three sets over two days at the Las Tortugas Festival in Yosemite National Park where they will revisit their mashup theme from last year’s Halloween show.

UM will also be producing its second “S2″ event on October 24th at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. Below is a video recap of the first event held in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago.
Artist & Title: Widespread Panic – Slippin’ Into Darkness, Just Like A Woman
Date & Venue: 2009-10-10 BJCC Arena, Birmingham AL
Taper & Show Download: Z-Man
And it’s only fitting that this alphabetical order list rounds out with a number of musicians on the scene who have been doing it the longest. Most notably Gregg Allman (Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969). Widespread Panic started as a band in 1986 and Warren Haynes formed Gov’t Mule in 1994. All three bands are still out there. And all of those musicians are featured on this song combination featured here.
Warren Haynes (guitar) and Marc Quinones (percussion) join WSP for War’s Slippin’ Into Darkness. Then, Gregg Allman helps close out Set I with keyboards and lead vocals on Bob Dylan’s Just Like A Woman, which is awesome. There are only two remaining WSP/ABB co-bills, this Friday & Saturday in Texas.
