Artist & Title: Gov’t Mule – Sco-Mule
Date & Venue: 2009-09-23 Club Nokia, Los Angeles CA
Taper & Show Download: Pat Myers

I could have put together an entire Last Week’s Sauce made up solely of the guest appearances that graced the stage of Gov’t Mule on the west coast. Since taper-friend of HT SGordo is set on marrying Australian bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, I have selected this track. Wilkenfeld sat in on Sco-Mule, an instrumental Gov’t Mule tune that is often brought out to highlight guest musicians. Also at the LA show were sit-ins by: Jeff Young, Pete Thorn and Bruce Willis. In San Francisco, a couple of days later, Warren and company welcomed: Jackie Greene, Dave Schools, Eric McFadden, Eric Krasno, Sam Kinninger and Ryan Zoidis on Night 1. Joining the cast on Night 2 was also Jose Neto and Grace Potter. Mule plays tonight at the Brooklyn Bowl.

Artist & Title: Taylor Hicks – My Sweet Lord
Date & Venue: 2009-09-26 WorkPlay Theater, Birmingham AL
Taper & Show Download: Dennis Tyler

I try and keep things fresh in this column, sometimes it’s tough because there are a limited number of bands out there that allow audience taping of their shows. So when I see an artist like Taylor Hicks show up on my RSS feed to bt.etree.org, I have to take a look. Then, when I see he performed this George Harrison tune, with a gospel choir – and there’s video, how can I not use it? Are you near Durham, North Carolina? If so, you’re in luck – Taylor Hicks is playing the role of “Teen Angel” in a production of Grease for the first part of October. Oh yeah, that’s right.
