Artist & Title: Al Green – Let’s Stay Together
Taper & Show Download: Jeff Hatcher

Al Green, 63, is still out there doing it and sounding great as he leads the Bonnaroo crowd through a great rendition of Let’s Stay Together. Green plays this Saturday at the Ottawa Jazz Festival.

Artist & Title: Band Of Horses – The Funeral
Taper & Show Download: Martin Medley

The taper makes it clear in the description of this recording that the mix for Band Of Horses was very poor and that there was a lot of post-production work down to make it more listenable. They did a damn good job, because the tape sounds pretty damn good now. Band Of Horses is off the road for a month or so and will return to the live stage in August.

Artist & Title: The Beastie Boys – No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn

The Beastie Boys live dates are scarce this summer, they will next pop up in New Jersey at the All Points West Festival in August. Artist & Title: David Byrne – Heaven
Taper & Show Download: Daniel Kopp

It seems like David Byrne has been out on the road doing the tour of Byrne & Eno songs for a long time now. I’m not complaining, I caught the show last year in New Bedford and it was fantastic. There is one more US tour date for Byrne and it’s tomorrow at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. After that, it’s off to Europe for the summer.

Artist & Title: Gov’t Mule – Southern Man
Taper & Show Download: MSTaper

Gov’t Mule welcomed Grace Potter and Scoutt Tournet (guitarist from Grace Potter & The Nocturnals) for a rousing rendition of this Neil Young classic. Oddly enough, Gov’t Mule has a one-off gig in Finland this Saturday and the next gig will be at the Rothbury Festival in Michigan.

Artist & Title: Jimmy Buffett – Brown Eyed Girl
Taper & Show Download: Daniel Kopp

For the show at Bonnaroo, Jimmy Buffett was sharing the stage with a musician he discovered in Mali named Ilo Ferreira. The selection is a long-time cover in the Buffett repertoire, Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl. Buffett plays tonight at the venue formerly known as Great Woods.

Artist & Title: Phish – Down With Disease
Taper & Show Download: Scott Bernstein (err, the other one)

Did you guys hear Phish played Bonnaroo? They did. I could have gone with one of the songs that Bruce Springsteen joined the band on, but I think this 18-minute (finished!) version of Down With Disease was a great performance and deserves a listen. Phish returns July 30th at Red Rocks.

Artist & Title: Snoop Dogg – Lodi Dodi
Taper & Show Download: Brian Hadella

Snoop Dogg welcomes Erykah Badu to the stage for a fun take on Lodi Dodi (a tune off of Doggystyle of course – a cover of Slick Rick’s La Di Da Di). It’s funny, Snoop has to ask the crowd a BUNCH of times if there are any party people in the house. It’s Bonnaroo – shouldn’t it have been very apparent that they were indeed everywhere? Snoop-a-loop is touring amphitheaters this summer w/support from Slightly Stoopid starting in July.

Artist & Title: Tony Rice Unit – Nine Pound Hammer
Taper & Show Download: Taper Unknown

One thing these festivals are great for is the collaborations that take place and this is a great one when David Grisman joins the Tony Rice Unit for a couple of tunes. Rice next appears at the FREE SC Festival of Flowers on Saturday.

Artist & Title: Wilco – Bull Black Nova
Taper & Show Download: Brian Hadella

Last, and certainly not least, is a band whose stock seems to be continually on the rise: Wilco. On tour with a fresh batch of songs from their new album, Wilco plays tonight at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.
