Listen To This: David Lott – Broken Heart

In the past we’ve discussed HT fave Dave Lott’s time with  Licorice and The Whitewalls, but this morning we’ll put the spotlight on Lott’s burgeoning solo career.  Lott, who performed at our 5th Anniversary Party in October with The Whitewalls, has been working up material that’s more in the Americana vein than he’s previous output with a backing band that features drummer Rob Heath (Justin Townes Earle, Steve Earle), bassist Tim Luntzel (Roseanne Cash, Bright Eyes, Norah Jones) and keyboardist/lap steel master Riley McMahon.

We get our first “official” taste of Lott’s new material and the supporting musicians he’s assembled with the release of a two-track produced by Eric Silverman of Silvertone. Back in October we shared Paint By Numbers and today we wanted to post one of the most beautiful tunes we’ve heard from Lott – Broken Heart. Co-written with Silverman, Broken Heart features soaring lap steel work from McMahon that helps accent the emotion Lott succeeds in conveying through the song’s lyrics.
