Former SNL and current Up All Night cast member Maya Rudolph has long been a fan of Prince, even going so far as to front a Prince cover band called Supersauce back in college. It had already been announced that Rudolph will be backed by The Roots tonight at the Brooklyn Bowl for a set of Prince covers. Now, Newsday reveals that the actress will perform a set of Prince songs tomorrow at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester during The Roots’ residency at the newly reopened venue.
Maya and her friend Gretchen Lieberum performed The Purple One’s Darling Nikki on last night’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, but the Fallon show hasn’t posted a clip of the performance. That didn’t stop Gawker from posting it. Tickets are still available for tomorrow night’s show in Port Chester which features Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe as the opening act. If you’ll recall, The Roots’ residency opened earlier this month with a “worlds colliding” encore featuring Bob Weir, Grace Potter, Trey Anastasio, Bobby Keys and Warren Haynes. What will “Round Two” bring?
