For the past few years, any news from the Ween camp has been few and far between. Finally, The Mighty Boognish has awoken, and we’re about to get our fill of brown. Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo published an exciting update on the band’s website. First, Deaner gave an update on Ween’s new album:

StudioWeen

We’ve been in the studio the past couple of months with our producer Andrew Weiss recording our new album. It is going to be an amazing record. I’m very skeptical when anyone makes claims about their new music so I’ll just say that I can’t wait for the album to be released. We have a few more songs to record and we will hopefully be finished with the tracking by the time our gigs start at the end of the month. We started out with 50 or 60 demos and whittled it down to around 20 songs. We recorded the album to 24 track 2 inch tape so it sounds the way music was meant to be heard.

As if the prospect of the first Ween studio album in four years didn’t get me excited enough, news of an archival release (on DVD, too) made ‘it’ move.

Check it out after the jump, as well as summer tour plans and more pics…

In addition to the album, we are talking about releasing an e.p. this summer with completely different tunes than the album–we hope to have the album out by late summer/early fall. We have a lot of new material like I said. Also, Chocodog may be releasing a live Ween album and DVD from 1991-1992 of material that has never been circulated before. It is really mega-brown and is the music equivalent of “a face only a mother could love”. Aaron has been taking a lot of pictures of the studio and you can view some of them by clicking here. I’m gonna update that page with new pics as Aaron sends them to me.

But Deaner wasn’t finished spreading good cheer to his fans. He went on to discuss Ween’s upcoming tour plans:

As far as tourdates go, we’ll be making our return to the road at the end of this month and we have dates booked throughout the summer. You can see the current short-list below, but we will be on tour for the week before Bonnaroo up in the Northeast as far as Montreal and working our through New England and south to Tennesee. I should be able to announce these dates this week. We are also putting together a tour of just Texas for a couple weeks in July.

The starving Ween fanbase is ready for action. We’re always on the lookout for brown, and as soon as the tourdates are released, we’ll post ‘em right here.
