More Allman/Panic Madness in Chicago

There were sit-ins a plenty last night at the Charter One Pavilion in Chicago where the Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic played their first of two shows in the Windy City. The Allmans opened the show for a change and welcomed Dave Mason of Traffic for Only You and I Know and Feelin’ Alright which also featured JoJo Hermann on the keys. Chicago blues legend Buddy came out later for The Sky Is Crying and You Don’t Love Me.

Gregg Allman made his first-ever appearance with Widespread Panic during the Georgia-based sextet’s headlining set. Allman led Panic through covers of Bob Dylan’s Just Like a Woman and Bobby Bland’s Turn On Your Lovelight – a tune they haven’t played since 1997.

Derek Trucks joined WSP for Ride Me High, North and all of a Papa’s Home > Climb to Safety > Papa’s Home segment with the exception of Drums. You know Warren wanted in on that action and had his chance during Lovelight and North. You can stream Panic’s set – along with every other WSP set from this tour –  over at Panicstream. The two bands return to the Charter One Pavilion tonight for the last show of the tour until October.
